Walk For Hope 2018


 

On Saturday, March 24th, the 7th annual Walk for Hope will be hosted at Bridgewater College’s Nininger Hall (11:30am-3:00pm). Walk for Hope is an event that brings together members of James Madison University, Blue Ridge Community College, Bridgewater College, Eastern Mennonite University, and area residents to raise awareness about depression and suicide.

Schedule of Events

11:00am: Check-in and free t-shirt pick up on the BC campus outside Nininger Hall - 402 E. College St., Bridgewater, VA 22812
11:30pm: Walk begins
12:15pm–3:00pm: Speaker Frank Warren, creative arts activities, refreshments, and resources will be provided.  

The walk begins at 11:30am. Directly following the walk we are excited to welcome Active Minds Speaker & PostSecret Creator, Frank Warren! Frank will be discussing his PostSecret work as well as the importance of mental health & suicide awareness. Following his presentation there will be free activities, including: message of hope button making, origami hummingbirds a symbol of strength and resilience, symbols of hope quilt, remembrance stones, and a kid’s area. Free resources & snacks will also be available, along with food for purchase from Tropical Smoothie and Peace Love & Little Donuts.

This event is FREE and open to the public, so you do not have to be a student to participate. To register, visit the event’s website and choose the school/community you are representing. Remember to register so that you can pick up your FREE Walk for Hope t-shirt at check in. 

For general parking at the event, as you approach Nininger Hall at Bridgewater College simply follow directions of the event staff directing you to the closest available parking. There will be a FREE shuttle running from JMU to BC throughout the event beginning at 11:00am and running until 3:30pm. The shuttle will pick JMU students up outside of the Student Success Center (near the Mason St./Dunkin’ Donuts entrance) and drop them off at Bridgewater College’s Nininger Hall. The shuttles will run throughout the event for students to return back to JMU.

Walk for Hope is a great way to participate in raising awareness and show your support for those with depression and mental illness. The core of the event centers on joining people together and uniting representatives from all 4 universities in the area to promote education, mental health awareness, and availability of support. Don’t miss out!
