2013 Friends of Valley Charities Golf Tournament to Benefit Local Cancer Patients

JMU Professor David Hayes participates in fundraising golf tournamentFriends of Valley Charities invites you to a day of fun and fundraising at Lakeview Golf Club on Monday, June 10 with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit local cancer patients.

All golfers are invited to play. There will be a women’s only and men’s/mixed flight and prizes. You can come as a team, or if you come alone, you will be paired up with a team.  If you don’t play golf or are unable to play, please consider purchasing a $5 ribbon or two or sponsor a hole to support the cause. The deadline for entry is June 3.

Susan Kruck, a professor of Computer Information Systems, began the charity golf tournament seven years ago.

“All the money is donated to charities—this year to RMH cancer patients WHO are making their healthcare decisions based on money instead of medical recommendations,” Susan says.

Last year, 100 players attended the event and raised $8,000. The organization also sells ribbons and hole sponsors in honor or in memory of cancer patients. They also take donations for the silent auction and for prizes. Overall, the organization has raised more than $29,000.

Friends of Valley Charities is an organization focused on raising money to support various charities in the Shenandoah Valley. Currently, they do so through organizing golf tournaments and raising funds through a silent auction and donations in honor of or memory of loved ones.  Past receipts have been Women’s Heart Health, Local cancer patients, and RMH Women’s Center. Their commitment is that 100% of all event proceeds are donated locally.
