The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in organic chemistry to begin August 2018. Teaching responsibilities include introductory and upper division courses and laboratories. Specifically, successful candidates will be able to teach introductory and upper level organic chemistry, general chemistry, and inquiry based laboratories using modern synthesis and characterization techniques. Establishing an externally funded research program involving undergraduates is expected.
Depending on their area of expertise, candidates may also contribute to the already established materials chemistry minor or the biophysical chemistry major. Successful candidates will also mentor undergraduates in research during the academic year and contribute to the existing NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program during the summer. A Ph.D. is required and postdoctoral experience is highly recommended.
