Dear JMU Family,
Update on Cases
The university observed 5 new positive cases of COVID-19 at the University Health Center yesterday. With 0 cases considered “recovered,” the total number of active cases is now at 48. The number of open quarantine and isolation beds is 419 out of 434. More information can be found on the university’s Stop the Spread dashboard.
UHC Hours
The University Health Center will be closed this Friday, April 9, to allow our staff to help the Virginia Department of Health administer the COVID-19 vaccine. The pharmacy will be open from 1 to 5 p.m.
For students, faculty and staff who need to be tested while UHC is closed on Friday, free testing will be available in Warren Hall 502 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment is needed, but you must bring your JACard or have MobileID available.
Free Student Testing
Student testing is available on Wednesdays in the Festival Allegheny Room from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. No appointment is needed.
Testing is also available on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Warren Hall 502. Students can sign up for an appointment and walk-ins are also accepted. Faculty and staff testing is available on Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Testing takes less than 10 minutes, and you’ll receive your results in 20 minutes!
Vaccines Coming
The local Central Shenandoah Health District is anticipating an increase in the availability of COVID-19 vaccines in the coming weeks. If you have not already done so, it is more important than ever for you to pre-register to be vaccinated as soon as possible. Click this link to pre-register for the first time or to confirm/update an earlier pre-registration. Alternatively, you can call 877-VAX-IN-VA, or 877-829-4682.
Pre-registration indicates that you are eligible for the vaccine. An appointment will still be required to receive the vaccine. You will be contacted with a link or phone call when it is your time to make an appointment. Please monitor your email and phone closely for this important follow-up information. Remember, the best vaccine is the first one offered to you. All vaccines are effective in preventing death and severe illness.
Once you have been completely vaccinated, you are encouraged to voluntarily provide this information through MyJMUChart. This will allow JMU to inform various stakeholders of our rate of COVID-19 vaccinations.
