Graduate course offerings and requirements

Graduate music theory courses include:

  • MUS 576 - Graduate Review of Tonal Theory
  • MUS 601 - Advanced Tonal Analysis and Introduction to Post-Tonal Analysis
  • MUS 702 - Advanced Seminar in Music Theory (variable topics)
  • MUPED 706 - Music Pedagogy in Higher Education III (Music Theory Pedagogy)

Master of Music students in the three concentrations must take the following theory courses:

  • Composition: MUS 601 and MUS 702, or MUS 702 twice (different topics), depending on results of diagnostic exam
  • Conducting: either MUS 601 or MUS 702, depending on results of diagnostic exam
  • Performance: either MUS 601 or MUS 702, depending on results of diagnostic exam

Doctor of Music students in all concentrations are required to take both MUS 601 and MUS 702, or MUS 702 twice (different topics), depending on results of their diagnostic exam.
