Dr. Mary Kimsey is a professor of Geographic Science in the Department of Integrated Science and Technology. She teaches courses on climatology, water resources, poverty, human geography, natural disaster response, global issues, humanitarian affairs, and Latin America and the Caribbean. She co-launched the Humanitarian Affairs Minor at JMU which focuses on the challenges and rewards of a humanitarian response to natural disasters and political conflict. Dr. Kimsey has experience conducting research and launching a number of projects on the island of La Gonave in Haiti. She is coordinator of the "Haiti Project," wherein JMU students work on research projects that are of direct benefit to the people of La Gonave.
