EmpowHER is an event series that aims to provide resistance training programming designed for JMU women (students, faculty, and staff) and the opportunity to experience the weight room in a comfortable, educational, and open setting. The goal of EmpowHER is to provide relevant knowledge and tools needed to develop confidence in incorporating weight training into your own training plan.

Fall 2022 Program:

Our EmpowHER team is excited to take on the fall semester by offering a series of programs to teach you all about different exercises in the fitness world, implementing workouts at home, and how to reach individual fitness goals! These programs will include the use of resistance bands, kettlebells, dumbbells, Olympic lifting, and much more. This semester, we will be focusing on developing better lifting form to optimize resistance training effectiveness and safety, providing support for reaching individual fitness goals, and building workout programs that are the best fit for you.

Program Dates

The EmpowHER program will run weekly on Mondays, October 3rd – December 5th (with the exception of November 21st - University closed). Sessions will be held from 5:30-6:30pm in Godwin Hall room 116 (subject to change).

We will also be hosting three large events that will be open to the JMU community:

  • Talk to the Band: Working with Resistance Bands (October 3rd)
  • Raise the Bar: Learning Olympic Lifts (November 7th)
  • Fitness Fountain of Youth: Optimizing Balance and Mobility (December 5th)
