Our Information Technology major is focused on highly relevant skills in fields of

  • Cybersecurity
  • Computer networking
  • End-user design and development (mobile and web development)

We go beyond the science behind computers, teaching you how to design and develop solutions in a wide range of computing and networking application areas. We will provide you with the knowledge and skills to meet the computer technology needs of business, government, healthcare, education, and other organizations.

Our class sizes are capped at 30 students and taught by our full-time faculty. Our teaching methods are evidence-based and utilize innovative techniques stemming from our extensive research history, spanning information technology to diverse fields like intelligent transportation, IoT applications, manufacturing systems, and cybersecurity.

The IT major features a junior-level project to address a community need and a senior capstone project, allowing students to apply the range of their abilities in a real-world context.

Our students have a strong sense of community, often gathering in our labs after hours to collaborate on projects to share knowledge and network across different courses and academic years.

Admission to our program adheres to JMU's policies. If you're already an accepted JMU student, you are welcome to join our IT program.

If you're eager to contribute to building the computation and networked solutions of the world of tomorrow, our major might be for you!
