Location Description

As a true student city, Leicester is lively, culturally diverse and easy to enjoy on a student budget. The city was named most affordable place to live for students by HSBC in 2014 and 2015. Leicester is well-connected to public transport, and an excellent base for exploring both the UK and continental Europe. The city also has a rich heritage in sport, culture and industry with events, facilities and attractions to suit every lifestyle.

Leicester offers a wide range of academic programs and research areas, including the Arts, Psychology, Medicine, Law, Education, Biological sciences and Social sciences, to name but a few. Broadly speaking, 3 US credits is the equivalent of 10 UK credits and 5 US credits equate to 20 UK credits. Accommodations

The University of Leicester provides three vibrant housing locations for students: Oadby Student Village (OSV), City Living and Freemen's. The OSV is approximately a 40 minute walk from the main campus,
with a free shuttle bus available during term-time. Shops and a supermarket are nearby,
as is the University's Botanical Garden. City Living and Freemen's are approximately a 5
to 10 minute walk from the main campus. They are all self-catered with no meal plan. Each hall offers social events for students throughout the year.

Applicant Criteria

Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and be in good standing with the university. 

The is no language requirement for this university. All course instruction will be offered in English. 

Applicants must have completed their first year of JMU before going abroad. There are exceptions for Transfer Students.

Costs

In addition paying regular tuition to JMU, participants can also expect to pay the following estimated costs to the host institution:

Additional out-of-pocket expenses may include food, flight, visa fees, in-country transportation, and personal funds.

How to Apply

The application for admission has a number of parts. See the outline below and make certain you have completed all steps in the application process:

  • Online JMU Exchange General Application 
    Completing the General Application will allow you to select your top three universities for Exchange. Multiple Exchange Program applications do not need to be submitted.
  • Exchange University's application 
    Upon acceptance from JMU, the applicant will then complete the host university's application. The exchange program coordinator will work with applicant to provide access to the application.
