Alexander L. and Joanne Gabbin Business Scholarship
Scholarship Overview
The Gabbin Business scholarship was established by Drs. Alexander and Joanne Gabbin to honor the 19 years of service by Dr. Joanne Gabbin to the Honors Program (now the Honors College). During Dr. Gabbin's tenure as director of the Honors College, from 1986 to 2005, she oversaw an expansion in the program in terms of its number of students, parrticipating faculty, programs, and endowments. She created numerous programs such as the Brown Bag lunch talks, the Honors Symposium (which still occurs annually), Honors Nigh at the Blackfriars, the Honors Opportunity Program, the Honors Learning Community (Shenandoah Hall, still used today), as well as many other events and programs.
The Gabbin Business scholarship will be awarded to underrepresented undergraduate students (i.e. first generation college student, geographic diversity, merit scholarships, etc.) whose talents, skills and abilities enable them to enrich the James Madison University community and who are members of the Honors College. The recipient must plan to pursue a major in the College of Business and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 to be eligible for annual renewal of the scholarship award. Responsibility for the selection and awarding process lies with the Dean of the Honors College.
