Susan McGhee

Susan is an alumna of the JMU College of Business and received her Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting, in 1980. Susan has over 40 years of experience in audit and accounting. Susan worked with CarMax for 15 years, retiring in 2018 as AVP, Internal Audit. She previously held internal audit and accounting leadership roles at Cadmus Communications, Crown Vantage and James River Corporation and was an Audit Manager with EY in their Washington, DC and Richmond, VA offices. Susan is a Certified Public Accountant and currently consults on SOX, internal controls and accounting matters.
Susan has been an active supporter of the University. Susan joined the HAC in 2014 and is a Past Chair. She established the Fredric I. McGhee Scholarship Endowment for Aspiring Entrepreneurs in Support of the Honors College at JMU in 2014. Susan previously served on the College of Business Executive Advisory Board from 1991 to 2013, the School of Accounting Advisory Board from 1988 to 1991 and the JMU Alumni Association Board of Directors. Susan received the 1988 JMU Outstanding Alumnus in Accounting Award.
Susan currently serves on the Board of Directors, Greater Virginia Market of the March of Dimes and the Hanover Tavern Foundation Board of Directors. Susan lives with her husband Danny in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Susan’s three siblings are also alumni of JMU.
