Violet Allain, a member of the Honors Advisory Council since 2018, taught at JMU for thirty years and is Associate Dean Emerita of General Education and Professor Emerita of Secondary Education. 

She is a graduate from Northeastern Illinois University (’66) in teacher education. She earned her MA degree (’72) and Ph.D degree (’76) in Educational Foundations at The Ohio State University. Before her retirement at JMU in 2006 she was a faculty member in the Department of Secondary Education and taught undergraduate and graduate courses in history and philosophy of education, curriculum, and teaching methods. Violet also served as Associate Dean of General Education working on issues of curricular development, advising, and implementation of the General Education program at the university.
