For students, faculty and staff who were tested at the University Health Center: If you tested positive from a test obtained at the University Health Center you will be contacted by one of our medical staff. Please follow the instructions. You will also receive a call from the Virginia Department of Health; you need to answer this call and follow any additional instructions.

For students who were tested outside of the University Health Center: If you received a positive test result from a test obtained outside of the University Health Center, please notify us at 540-568-6178 during business hours or by self-reporting on our website. Someone from the UHC and Virginia Department of Health will follow up with you.

In the meantime:

  • Visit the Stop the Spread General COVID FAQs for important isolation information.
  • Isolate yourself from others.
  • Create a list of your close contacts.
    • Persons you have been in contact with for more than 15 minutes and less than 6 feet distance, starting 2 days prior to your symptoms. If you are not having symptoms, list contacts from the 2 days prior to your test date.
    • If your contacts are JMU students, please note if they live on or off campus.
  • If you are comfortable doing so, notify your contacts that they have been exposed and need to quarantine.
  • If you live on campus pack your personal items in preparation for moving home or into on-campus isolation.

For faculty and staff who were tested outside the University Health Center: If you received a positive test result from a test obtained outside of the University Health Center you will be notified by the medical facility that collected your test. You will also receive a call from the Virginia Department of Health; please follow isolation instructions. Notify your supervisor or Academic Unit Head. You may also contact the JMU Occupational Health Nurse at (540) 568-5310.
