Why did you choose JMU?

There were two reasons why I chose James Madison University. One, studying in America was one of my dreams. Therefore, when I had the opportunity, I seized it. Two, I like to do things which involve computers and technology, and I heard of the good reputation of JMU's Computer Science department. Classes related to Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence really drew me in. I am interested in coding and cybersecurity. I had to choose James Madison University. So far, what do you like best about JMU?

What do you like best about JMU?

I prefer mild weather, one that is not hot but not cold. In Virginia, the weather is perfectly balanced, moreover I get to go skiing in winter. Finally, people on campus are so friendly and welcoming that when I came across a situation or a problem, I can always ask them, and they will help me as much as they can. I remember this one time at the beginning of the semester when I trying to get to the ISAT building. Getting there was kind of confusing to me, so I asked this random person and she gladly helped me with the directions. It made my day!

What surprised you the most during your first semester?

To be honest, nothing shocked me during the first semester. I would say that the lifestyle in America was almost the same or similar to where I am from. However, there were a few aspects which I personally needed to change. First, I needed to schedule my time according to my classes. Second, I had to improve my English quickly By virtue of finding the reight centers and assistance all around campus, I also learned more about the culture and how to blend in with other students.

What is your favorite class?

CS 149 is the class I too last semester about programming, more specifically programming using computer languages, such as JAVA. I acquired more concepts and essential knowledge. While at the end of each class I would feel excited it also left me frustrated. The programming as pect of the class is challenging when it comes to figuring out the mistakes in the coding. Even though programming can be hard at times, it is exactly why I love it. I love solving problems!

What do you like to do during your free time?

During my free time, I sometimes go to UREC (our gym) to work out to become healthier. Additionally, I also joining some student clubs/organizations so I can be connected to more people. For example, This semester I joined the Brazilian Jin-Jitsu during which I not only met other students I would have never met otherwise, but I also learned self-defense techniques. The other club I joined is called Bridges International during which I learn a lot and am involved with American Culture, such as square dancing. Finally, I also need to use some of my free time to study, which I do with my friends.
