MAINSTAGE THEATRE

ARTWORK BY RICH HILLIARD

“This show packs a real punch.”

The Guardian

Amid religious intolerance, political injustice and racial tension, this Tony Award-winning musical is based on the true story of Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-raised Jew living in Georgia in 1913. Leo is plant superintendent of a pencil factory where 13-year-old Mary Phagan works. When the young girl is found murdered, Leo is immediately suspected, arrested and put on trial. With a book by Pulitzer-Prize-winning playwright Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy) and a skillful score by Jason Robert Brown (Songs for a New World, The Last Five Years, The Bridges of Madison County), Parade is a moving theatrical experience about the dangers of prejudice and ignorance—and the endurance of love and hope against all odds. Features students from JMU’s School of Theatre and Dance and School of Music.
