The Bluestone Wind Quintet featuring JMU music faculty members Beth Chandler, Jeanette Zyko, Sarunas Jankauskas, Sue Barber and Ian Zook will perform works by Reicha, Damase, Muczynski, Barber and Bozza!

Flutist Beth Chandler enjoys an active career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and teacher. A frequent guest artist and master class clinician, Chandler has performed and presented at major venues, festivals, and universities throughout the United States and abroad. She was a Fulbright Scholar and past president of the National Flute Association. Chandler won the 2016-2017 College of Visual and Performing Arts Distinguished Teacher Award and is a professor of flute at JMU. www.bethchandler.com

Oboist Jeanette Zyko, praised by Fanfare Magazine and ArtsNash for her “refined playing” and “achingly beautiful lines,” enjoys an active career as a chamber and orchestra musician. A versatile artist, she has performed music ranging from Andriessen to Zelenka, and is interested in playing seldom-programmed works. Prior to joining the faculty of JMU, Zyko taught at Austin Peay State University and the University of Costa Rica. She received her doctorate from Manhattan School of Music.

A native of Lithuania, clarinetist Sarunas Jankauskas has performed throughout the United States and Europe, collaborating with Boulder Chamber Orchestra, Round Rock Symphony, St. Petersburg and Jasper String Quartets. Notable performances include International Conservatory Week Festival (Russia), SoundSpace at Blanton, Chamber Music at The BARN, International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest®, and various festivals and conferences. Sue Barber (D.M.A. Louisiana State University, M.M. The Juilliard School, B.M. Crane School of Music) is professor of bassoon at JMU and artist/faculty at the Brevard Music Festival. She is an active bassoonist in the region, performing regularly with the Richmond Symphony, Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, Opera Roanoke, and Opera on The James. As a chamber musician, recitalist and clinician, she has presented both nationally and internationally. In the fall of 2012, she served as a visiting professor at Indiana University. 

Ian Zook is an active orchestral and solo performer, and has appeared in concerts throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. As a soloist, he has performed with numerous ensembles including the JMU Brass Band at the Kennedy Center, the Charlottesville & University Symphony Orchestra, the Virginia Baroque Consort, and the Chamber Orchestra of Charlottesville. He joined the faculty of James Madison University in 2009, and performs frequently with the Madison Brass and Montpelier Winds, both faculty ensembles in-residence at JMU.
