CIS/SMAD Presentations

Sat, 29 Apr 2017 12:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Welcome to the capstone course presentations for the Computer Information Systems (CIS) program. The capstone experience has evolved
over the past few years during its delivery in the fall and spring. The course is designed to offer an environment for students to work with an
actual client to solve a business need or problem. CIS Students are expected to utilize the knowledge and skills they have learned and obtained through the prerequisite CIS core courses, including database, programming, systems analysis and design and others, to develop a solution for the client. The students are assigned to small teams within the class who compete to develop the best solution. Again this semester, SMAD students have been an important component of the teams and project. This solution for this semester includes the development of an
application with a database and web-based interface for two different platforms.

KPMG, a long-standing employer of CIS graduates, worked very closely with the capstone classes this semester. KPMG provided mentors for the student teams to help them to understand and satisfy the project requirements. In addition, KPMG provided the pizza and refreshments
prior to today’s final presentations.

The competition among the teams is intense. A group of judges is convened where the two top teams face-off and provide a compelling presentation of their solution. The audience includes KPMG mentors, CIS and SMAD faculty, current JMU students Alumni, family, and friends. I hope you enjoy the presentations.
