On Friday, February 24, Dr. Paul Nedelisky (JMU) will give a Logic & Reasoning Institute talk.

Title: "Can We Know What Any Properties are Like?"

Abstract: This paper is aimed at undermining a recent skeptical thesis concerning knowledge of properties. Ramseyan Humility is the thesis that all we can know are the theoretical roles for properties--what they *do*, speaking loosely--and since any role could for all we know be filled by more than one property, we don't know the identity of any property--we don't know what any specific property is. I argue against this thesis by pointing out that we can't even grasp the thesis of Ramseyan Humility unless we know the identity of certain properties. As such, grasping or understanding Ramseyan Humility provides us with the resources for a transcendental argument for the thesis's falsity.
