Drawing on the Left: Ben Shahn and the Art of Human Rights

Born into a Lithuanian-Jewish family, Ben Shahn (1898-1969) is an American social realist artist and left-wing political activist who devoted his life to fighting injustice and promoting the human rights of underprivileged people. This exhibition will feature prints, drawings, photographs and paintings from the 1930s through the 1960s that focus on issues of poverty and unemployment, racial and ethnic discrimination, the Civil Rights movement, and the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War, among others.
