Processing Recent Shootings (Online Roundtable)

Wed, 16 Nov 2022 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

In recent weeks, several shootings in our area have shaken us. This week’s shooting, which has killed and injured several people at the University of Virginia, is especially disturbing to many of us as it took place at a neighboring university where we know colleagues and students.

During the last weeks, there has been a mass shooting at an off-campus housing complex and an apparent murder close to downtown Harrisonburg, in addition to further acts of violence in Charlottesville. Such events are traumatic for students and faculty. They have had a disproportionate effect on Black members of our local and academic communities in Western and Central Virginia.

This online caring space provides an opportunity to debrief our own experiences as faculty and community members, find mutual support, and exchange resources and practices.

This conversation is for JMU faculty and staff only.

November 16th from 11am - 12:30pm
