Faculty Welcome (formerly known as New Faculty Orientation) is a one-day mini-conference that invites faculty to (re-)discover what JMU is about, refresh their career plans, update their skills, and strengthen connections to their colleagues. It is particularly designed for faculty who are new to JMU or who are newly tenured or promoted to full this year. It welcomes full-time as well as part-time faculty.

Flexibility and Accessiblity
This year’s Faculty Welcome program will be offered in person. In addition, for those who are not able to participate in person, select workshop sessions will be offered online. If you cannot make it to the resource fairs on August 15, please consult the JMU Faculty Resource Guide.
The Center for Faculty Innovation strives to make its programs welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all of our participants. If you have any accessibility needs or there are considerations (e.g., disability, wellness, cultural) you want us to know about, please note them when you sign-up for Faculty Welcome or reach out to Andreas Broscheid, broschax@jmu.edu.
Due to the interactive nature of CFI’s Faculty Welcome programs, we do not intend to record sessions or make them available asynchronously.
Who attends Faculty Welcome?
- All new full and part-time faculty who are new to JMU
- Faculty newly tenured or promoted to full this year (Even if you have been at another institution, you should attend Faculty Welcome to meet new colleagues and explore the academic culture of JMU.)
- Returning Faculty: All JMU faculty who want to connect with their colleagues and are interested in attending the workshops and other sessions offered as part of Faculty Welcome
Faculty Welcome is designed to...
- Welcome faculty (back) to JMU
- Offer opportunities for networking and community building
- Enhance the success of faculty by encouraging a comprehensive approach to career planning
- Engage faculty in professional development that supports a diverse range of faculty careers and identities
- Orient participants that are new to JMU to the institution's culture
- Provide faculty with timely resources related to teaching, scholarship, service, and more
