Mental Health Allyship (Online Community)

Tue, 17 May 2022 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

No registration is necessary; the link will be emailed to all faculty.

As a follow-up to the Provost’s February Town Hall on responding to mental health crises on campus, the CFI is partnering with the Provost’s Office to offer a virtual Town Hall focusing on how faculty can serve as mental health allies for students and care for their own mental health. Facilitated by Provost Heather Coltman and Dr. Negar Shekarabi, an expert in providing mental health services on college campuses. No registration is necessary; the link will be emailed to all faculty.

Facilitated by:

Negar Shekarabi, Psy.D., Coordinator of Faculty & Staff Support Services at the University of California, Irvine

Heather Coltman, DMA, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

Faculty participants will make progress toward these career planning outcomes:

  • Understanding their role in mental health support on campus
  • Developing tools and a common language for providing this support
  • Reflecting on personal experiences surrounding mental health and determining what supports are needed

CFI programs will be canceled automatically if JMU is closed for inclement weather.

Our programs are intended for JMU faculty or staff only. If you are a student or administrator and would like to attend, please sign up and leave a note at the end of the survey.

We want this program to be welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all of our participants. Please describe any considerations (e.g., disability, wellness, cultural, etc.) you want us to know about in the registration survey. You may also reach out to us at or (540) 568-4846.
