Participants in this roundtable conversation will discuss the strengths and shortcomings of the article “How to be off the Tenure Track and Love it.” Afterwards, facilitators will lead an open conversation about career advancement-related challenges for non-tenure track faculty and begin to explore some of the strategies that participants have used to advance their careers or gain satisfaction in their non-tenure track roles at JMU. We encourage anyone in a non-tenure track role or interested in non-tenure track faculty experiences to join the conversation.

Facilitated by:

Oliver Hyman, College of Science and Math, and CFI

Faculty participants will make progress toward these program outcomes:

  • Identifying effective strategies for career advancement in a non-tenure track position; and
  • Developing relationships with non-tenure track faculty across campus

Faculty participants will make progress toward these career planning outcomes:

  • Identifying and implementing effective strategies for career advancement; and
  • Developing and fostering productive mentoring and networking relationships.

CFI programs will be canceled automatically if JMU is closed for inclement weather.
