This online workshop will also be offered on Tue 11/9 from 2:30-4:00 PM.

Building off of her Teaching Toolbox,“Freedom Dreaming,” Amy Lewis will facilitate a workshop focused on the act of dreaming out loud. The purpose of this workshop is for participants to embrace the possibilities of imagining their most desired work environment at JMU as instructors. Participants will recognize what they appreciate about JMU as well as deeply imagine how working at JMU can best meet their most wide-ranging dreams. With regard to teaching, participants will gain tools on how to also facilitate and engage with students’ dreams and reflect on how both students’ and faculty members’ dreams can converge in powerful ways. As participants dream for their most ideal work space both with and without parameters, they will also identify how to collectively create pathways for those dreams to become a lived reality.

Facilitator: Dr. Amy Lewis, School of Music and CFI.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these program outcomes:

  • Identifying their dream environment as an instructor;
  • Reflecting on the influence and responsibility of instructing students to dream for their own future; and
  • Developing strategies on how to engage with act of freedom dreaming in the classroom.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these teaching outcomes:

  • Appreciating pedagogy—the art and science of teaching and learning--as a significant higher education endeavor;
  • Identifying factors that influence pedagogical choices; and
  • Articulating how current pedagogical choices reflect disciplinary norms.

Faculty participants will make progress toward this career planning outcome:

  • Identifying strategies to maintain balance in work-life continuum.
