Caring Spaces: Recalibrating Scholarship Amid the Pandemic (Online Roundtable)

Tue, 28 Sep 2021 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

This session has been canceled and may be offered at a later date.

Scholarship productivity and passion have waxed and waned for many in higher education during the pandemic. This “caring” space will encourage sharing, listening, and empathy in a process of discussing participants’ recent work in scholarship and the opportunities and challenges that exist amid pandemic abnormalities. Each person will be offered space to articulate feelings and thoughts related to their scholarship productivity, reconceptualize what “productivity” means to them, and develop ideas for action steps for immediate fall future. Facilitators will offer resources provided through the Center for Faculty Innovation’s Scholarship Area as well as encourage an open discussion of strategies that have helped faculty scholars.  This is a continuation of a conversation initiated by colleagues in the CFI program “Staying Connected with Your Scholarship while Social Distancing” .

Some questions we will consider include:

  • How has the meaning of scholarship productivity changed (or not) for you during the pandemic?
  • Do you/we need to recalibrate expectations around scholarship?
  • What are small steps we can each take to recenter and/or reinvigorate our passion for scholarship?

Faculty participants will make progress toward these program outcomes:

  • Experiencing community around scholarship;
  • Revisiting personal concept of “scholarly productivity” ;and
  • Recalibrating expectations and perspectives around scholarship.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these scholarship outcomes:

  • Appreciating the diverse forms, purposes, and communication modes of scholarship in higher education; and
  • Enhancing scholarly productivity.
