Reading Group on Mentoring Practices (Online Faculty Community)

Fri, 14 May 2021 12:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Group will meet on Tuesdays 3-4 PM; 5/25, 6/1; 6/8; 6/15.

Sign up closes on Fri 5/14 at 12 PM.

Join a group of colleagues to read and discuss texts about mentoring. Proposed readings will be about how to start a mentoring relationship; how to give and receive feedback; critical mentoring; and setting up mentoring programs. The readings will have practical components that can be applied in our mentoring practices. While all faculty with interest in mentoring are invited, we especially encourage faculty in mentoring roles as well as academic unit heads to consider participating. Meetings will be online, though participants can decide to occasionally meet in person outside (for example in the JMU Arboretum) if all agree to do so.

Facilitator: Andreas Broscheid, CFI and College of Arts & Letters

Faculty participants will make progress toward:

  • Increasing their knowledge of the literature on good mentoring practices; and
  • Establishing and strengthening relationships with colleagues.

We want this program to be welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all of our participants. Please describe any considerations (e.g., disability, wellness, cultural, etc.) you want us to know about in the registration survey. You may also reach out to us personally at Tiffany Runion, or (540)568-4846.
