Getting Feedback from Our Students (Online Roundtable)

Thu, 4 Mar 2021 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

In this tumultuous time, it can be difficult to know how students are experiencing our courses. Students may crave opportunities to connect and to share how the course is going, but without clear or easy mechanisms for doing so, we may only end up learning about their complaints—indirectly, through our AUHs or deans, and too late, in final course evaluations, when there is nothing we can do. How can we open up and increase channels of communication with our students while our courses are still happening? How can we discover their perceptions of the learning environment at this point in the spring? How can we receive the feedback we want or need to make adjustments for finishing out the semester strong? This online roundtable will create a space for instructors to share ideas for proactively soliciting this kind of “formative” feedback, which may be especially important in this time of disconnect and uncertainty.

Facilitator: Emily O. Gravett, CFI and College of Arts & Letters

Faculty participants will make progress toward these outcomes:

  • Identifying strategies for getting student feedback about the course so far; and
  • Identifying factors that influence pedagogical choices.

CFI programs will be canceled automatically if JMU is closed for inclement weather.

Our programs are intended for JMU faculty or staff only. If you are a student or administrator and would like to attend, please sign up and leave a note at the end of the survey.

We want this program to be welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all of our participants. Please describe any considerations (e.g., disability, wellness, cultural, etc.) you want us to know about in the registration survey. You may also reach out to us personally at Tiffany Runion, or (540)568-4846.
