Nurturing Growth in a Mentoring Relationship (Online Workshop)

Fri, 26 Feb 2021 12:45 PM - 2:15 PM

This online workshop is offered on Tuesday, February 23 from 3:00-4:30 PM, and Friday, February 26 from 12:45pm-2:15 PM.

This workshop is for JMU faculty who mentor other JMU faculty and seek to enhance their mentoring effectiveness. It focuses on the middle period of mentoring, after the mentoring partners have gotten to know each other and have set a mentoring agenda: How can mentors make sure the actual mentoring “work” will be productive? Applying concepts from Zachary’s The Mentor’s Guide (2012), participants will learn and then practice skills in providing feedback to ‘forward the action’—that is, help mentees make commitments and take action on the goals important to them. In addition, topics such as identifying learning opportunities and mentee accountability will also be discussed.

  • Andreas Broscheid, CFI and College of Arts & Letters
  • Bob Kolodinsky, College of Business and CFI

Faculty partcicipants will make progress toward these outcomes:

  • Conducting productive mentoring sessions after a mentoring relationship has been established; and
  • Developing and fostering productive mentoring and networking relationships.

CFI programs will be canceled automatically if JMU is closed for inclement weather.

Our programs are intended for JMU faculty or staff only. If you are a student or administrator and would like to attend, please sign up and leave a note at the end of the survey.

We want this program to be welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all of our participants. Please describe any considerations (e.g., disability, wellness, cultural, etc.) you want us to know about in the registration survey. You may also reach out to us personally at Tiffany Runion, or (540)568-4846.
