Writing Accountability Group (Online Faculty Community)

Mon, 8 Feb 2021 12:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Group will meet online on Fridays 2/19, 2/26, 3/5, 3/12 from 9:00 AM-12:30 PM
Application deadline: Monday, 2/08 at 5:00 PM.

Scholarly productivity can be fostered through participation in an online faculty writing accountability group which encourages and supports the cultivation and completion of writing projects. This writing accountability group offers faculty an online space to dedicate time to writing, editing, and celebrating success. Over the course of one month, participants will meet through Zoom on four Fridays to hold each other accountable for a block of time. Participants need to commit to being present for these four 3.5 hour time blocks on these dates. Additionally, participants will interact with one another daily virtually. In the online component of this faculty community, participants can check-in, ask questions, and share writing difficulties and tips. Simply stated, writing is easier with encouragement and accountability. Why not try something new to enhance writing productivity?

“This was wonderful. Thank you for organizing this space to your own scholarship and meet other faculty sharing similar challenges.”

“Loved the dedicated time to write and the group of people I met!”

“This group and regular meetings are really helpful. It ensures me to save and secure the time to work on scholarship. Previously, I always tried to fulfill other responsibility and push research back. Learning from colleagues who face similar issues on how they tackle those issues is helpful too.”

“Loved this group! I got through making substantial edits to a theoretical paper, sent it off to a coauthor and data analysis for a different project.”

“I truly enjoyed attending the writing sessions. Those sessions were amazing opportunities for me to learn more from the JMU community and write productively.”

Facilitator: Yeonsoo Kim, College of Arts & Letters
