Hybrid, Hy-Flex, Hy-Stress: Reframing the First Weeks of Teaching (Online Roundtable)

Extending from a popular Teaching Toolbox, this forum will create space for participants to learn about, practice, and share teaching strategies amidst an uncertain, chaotic fall semester. While the focus will be on holding a brave space for earnest dialogue among participants, we will also explore specific cognitive reframing strategies, attend to our pedagogical strengths, and discover evidence-informed approaches, like “slow teaching,” known to decrease instructor and student stress.

 Faculty participants will make progress toward these program outcomes:

  • Explore cognitive reframing strategies that mitigate stressors associated with pandemic teaching;
  • Recognize and attend to one’s instructional strengths in leveraging opportunities for student growth.
  • Contemplate the role of evidence-informed approaches, like slow teaching, in current hybrid and Hy-Flex environments.

 Faculty participants will make progress toward this teaching outcome:

  • Identifying factors that influence pedagogical choices.

 Faculty participants will make progress toward this career planning outcome:

  • Identifying strategies to maintain balance in work-life continuum.
