Several JMU scholars have indicated a need to connect with others in a semi-structured, supportive environment to advance their own book project. This Madison Research Fellowship is a response to that identified need. Writing a book can be a lonely endeavor that requires serious discipline, intellectual labor, and support from a broader community of scholars. Participants in this Madison Research Fellowship will advance a scholarly book project in a supportive community of JMU scholars. Weekly meetings, starting early February, will feature a combination of semi-structured, peer driven conversations, and work time to advance a scholarly book project. Faculty members at different stages in the book writing process (writing a book proposal, drafting chapters, editing/revising, and polishing/finishing) are welcome to apply to this group.

Facilitator: Ed Brantmeier, Ph. D.  Learning, Technology, and Leadership Education and Center for Faculty Innovation.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these program outcomes:

  • Advancing a scholarly book project.
  • Connecting to a supportive community of peers.
  • Maintaining wellness while book writing  during the semester.

Faculty participants will make progress toward enhancing scholarly productivity.

We want this program to be welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all of our participants. Please reach out to us at or (568-4846) with any considerations (e.g., disability, wellness, cultural, dietary, etc.) you want us to know about.
