CANCELLED: Allies to Accomplices

Fri, 26 Oct 2018 12:30 PM - 12:40 PM

As an educator, what does it mean to be an ally to persons different from yourself? Allies may claim to champion difference, but allyship is often underperformed or rescinded at the most critical moments in our courses. How can we complicate allyship in order to build meaningful spaces of solidarity in our classrooms? Panelists each talk about the problems and potential of allyship and then will invite audience comments and discussion.

Faculty participants will make progress toward identifying the challenges and opportunities associated with being an ally to faculty and students who may be different from oneself.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these teaching outcomes:

  • Appreciating pedagogy—the art and science of teaching and learning--as a significant higher education endeavor; and
  • Identifying factors that influence pedagogical choices.

If you require non-dietary accommodations to participate in this program, please email the CFI at or call (568-4846) immediately to convey your needs.  We will work with the HR department to provide you with reasonable accommodations, if time permits.
