Several JMU scholars have indicated a need to connect with others in a semi-structured, supportive environment to advance their own book project.  This Madison Research Fellowship is a response to that identified need.  Writing a book can be a lonely endeavor that requires serious discipline, intellectual labor, and support from a broader community of scholars.   Participants in this Madison Research Fellowship will advance a scholarly book project in a supportive community of JMU scholars.  Weekly meetings, starting late September, will feature a combination of semi-structured, peer driven conversations, and work time to advance a scholarly book project.  Faculty members at different stages in the book writing process (writing a book proposal, drafting chapters, editing/revising, and polishing/finishing) are welcome to apply to this group.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these program outcomes:

  • Advancing a scholarly book project,
  • Connecting to a supportive community of peers, and
  • Maintaining health while book writing  during the semester.

Faculty participants will make progress toward enhancing scholarly productivity.

Facilitator: Ed Brantmeier, Ph. D.  Learning, Technology, and Leadership Education and Center for Faculty Innovation.
