Mon, 22 Feb 2016 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Location:  Rose Library room 5211

Participants will explore how to design multimedia assignments that are particularly well-suited to community engagement and service learning classes across the disciplines. Specifically, participants will learn how to design assignments about, for, and with community partners. No prior experience teaching with multimedia is required to benefit from this workshop. Furthermore, the content covered will be useful in a variety of teaching contexts beyond community engagement learning experiences.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these outcomes:

  • Meeting and collaborating with others at JMU interested in engaged learning and teaching,

  • Designing thoughtful and rigorous assignments and/or courses that support higher level, engaged learning and media production, and

  • Integrating knowledge of student development models in teaching philosophies and practice.

Facilitator:  Seán McCarthy, Ph.D., a candidate for the Assistant Director of Teaching at JMU’s Center for Faculty Innovation, will give a workshop on Designing Creative Assessments.   Participants will explore how to design multimedia assignments and explore how to design assignments about, for, and with community partners.
