Brown Bag Presentation: Black Lives Matter

Tue, 27 Feb 2018 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Please join us for a brown bag talk about Black Lives Matter on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 12:00 PM in Madison Union (Taylor) 404. More information is below.

In 2013, following the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the killing of Trayvon Martin, the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement coalesced as a call to action demanding justice for unarmed black Americans killed by police and vigilantes. BLM activists have protested the state-sanctioned violence against black communities and the colorblind laws that trap black Americans in a racial caste system. In response, the BLM movement devised new strategies of protest and organization to mobilize in defense of human rights. How are their strategies different from Civil Rights Era activists? Come join Beth Hinderliter (Visiting Associate Professor in Cross Disciplinary Studies) for a short presentation and a subsequent conversation on the urgency of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Please bring your lunch; dessert and coffee will be provided. All are welcome.
