INTERNSHIPS in ENGLISH
An internship is an opportunity for you to take the skills you’ve been developing in the classroom and try them out in the professional arena.
Here’s how to get started:
Step 1
DO YOUR RESEARCH!
Carefully go through everything listed under “Guidelines and Resources” on the English Internships webpage, and take notes!
Step 2
MEET WITH THE DIRECTOR OF INTERNSHIPS
Make an appointment with the Director of Internships
Come prepared with your questions and goals!
Step 3
APPLY FOR AN INTERNSHIP
Search for opportunities on Recruit-A-Duke, Vault, LinkedIn, Etc…
Make use of CAP’s resume, cover letter, and interview resources
Step 4
APPLY FOR ACADEMIC CREDIT
Meet with your new employer to discuss the internship
Submit your filled-out application to the Director of Internships
Step 5
REGISTER FOR ENG 294
Once you’ve been approved, sign up for ENG 294 on MyMadison
Complete required internship hours and all modules on Canvas

Step 4: Apply for Academic Credit
Meet with your new employer to fill out the Application for Academic Credit, and submit signed form to the Director of Internships for approval.
