Forest Bathing

Registration Course Code: JAD121
Forest Bathing (Shinrin-yoku) was developed in the 1980s in Japan. A chemical released by trees and plants, called phytoncides, was found to boost the immune system. In this workshop, participants will:
-
Understand the benefits of breathing phytoncides in natural/wild areas.
-
Understand the definition of restoration recreation and experience it as a valid wellness plan for staff who are primarily confined to chairs and need to get their bodies moving and some fresh air.
-
Learn what the Arboretum offers as far as features/gardens that may be of personal interest to faculty/staff.
-
Understand the importance of preserving green spaces and corridors for humans and wildlife.
Facilitated by: Janet Mahon, Director, EJC Arboretum. PARTICIPANTS WILL BE WALKING OUTDOORS. PLEASE WEAR APPROPRIATE CLOTHING AND SHOES. Meet at the Pavilion next to the Family Garden in the Arboretum.
