Professional Pathways 2019

Professional Pathways is a new event for students in the College of Science and Mathematics to further explore the possibilities of their degree. Hear firsthand from recent alumni and other STEM professionals about the diverse paths they've taken since graduation. Perfect your Resume and get professionally savvy in the workshops, and network while enjoying snacks. Come to one or all the sessions!

Navigating a career path – Q&A with JMU Alumni/Professionals

·         Panel of recent and mid-career alumni & other professionals


Session II
(45 min)

Resume Workshop

  • How to translate class experience onto your resume
    (research, lab classes, TA, tutoring, study abroad, clubs, outreach, etc)
  • Identify skills sought by employers
    (communications, analytical/research, computer/ technical, flexibility/adaptability/managing multiple priorities, interpersonal, leadership/ management, multicultural, planning/organizing, problem –solving, teamwork)
  • Write/revise your 1-page resume


Snack Break


Session III
(45 min)

Professionalism Workshop

Appropriate professional dress, online presence, voicemail message etiquette, email etiquette, phone/Skype interview skills, LinkedIn and more!

(20 min)

Networking Reception/Mock Interviews/Snacks


Closing remarks, Wrap-up survey, door prize selections
(must submit survey & be present to collect prizes)
