Diversity includes YOU!

We are dedicated to providing an environment where all students can succeed.

  • Small class sizes - less than 30 students
  • Our faculty use the latest teaching techniques
  • We have trained teaching assistants who support our faculty
  • Our faculty have open office hours for drop-in visits
  • Our faculty and students are in the community teaching others about computer science
  • Our student organizations are mentored by CS faculty

Our Students and faculty attend conferences on diversity and inclusion such as the Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing and the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing

We are proud to be ranked 17th with the Most Women Graduates by ComputerScience.org - the only Virginia university to make it into the top 20!

We collaborate with the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) as a member of the Academic Alliance and participant in the Extension Services One-On-One Consulting. Using a strategic plan of best practices developed through this program, we are updating our facilities, website, and external publicity to more accurately reflect our inclusive environment as well as surveying students and stake-holders to gain insight into further improvements.
