The following instructions assume that you are already connected to the JMU wired or wireless network and you have administrative privileges on your computer.

  1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu
  2. Select Printers and Scanners
  3. Click  to add a printer

Select Advanced from the toolbar. If the Advanced button is not available in the toolbar, do the following, then continue to step 4:

                Control-click the toolbar in the Add window and select Customize Toolbar…

                Drag the Advanced button (the gear icon) onto the toolbar, then click Done

Click Advanced (the gear icon)

  1. Complete the form as follows:

Type: select LPD/LPR Host or Printer

                Device: select Another Device


to print to black & white printers enter:


to print to color printers enter:


Name: enter a descriptive name such as LabPrint Black & White or LabPrint Color

                Location: enter a descriptive name such as Labs & Libraries

                Use: select Generic PostScript Printer
