Luke Capizzo (APR, B.A., Michigan State University, M.A., Ph. D., University of Maryland) is an assistant professor in the public relations concentration. As a PR practitioner, researcher, and educator, his scholarly interests include public relations management, the role of public relations in civil society, corporate social responsibility, and public relations education. Broadly, his work examines the societal contributions of organizations through the public relations function.

His research has been presented in Public Relations Review and The Handbook of Financial Communication and Investor Relations. He has also published two textbooks (coauthored with Dr. Regina Luttrell, Syracuse University) through Sage Publications: Public Relations Campaigns: An Integrated Approach and The PR Agency Handbook. At JMU, he teaches across the public relations concentration, including PR Management and Advanced PR Writing.

Capizzo is a member of the public relations divisions of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), the International Communication Association (ICA), and the National Communication Association (NCA). He also stays active with the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), through which he earned an Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) in 2014.

Prior to graduate studies, he practiced public relations for eight years in a variety of industries including financial services, commercial real estate, manufacturing, political advocacy, retail, and technology, serving in both agency and in-house roles. Outside of work, he spent several decades as a competitive figure skater and coach.
