Professional Experience and Interests
- Taught students with high incidence disabilities in special education and inclusive classrooms in rural, urban, and international settings.
- Served as Middle School Administrator and Special Education Coordinator in international gateway city of Nairobi, Kenya for 12 years.
- Current licensures (Virginia): Special Education—General Curriculum; K12 School Administration.
- Served at the university level across a wide variety of contexts as Professor of Education, Co-Director of Honors program, advisor for Third Culture Individuals, Special Education program coordinator, Faculty Senator/President, and accreditation/assessment coordinator (NCATE).
- Interests include the professional development of teachers/faculty, diverse learners, diversity-responsive teaching, and organizational development and learning.
Current Research
Lori is currently a Co-PI for an NSF-funded inter-departmental collaborative research study, Faculty-Led Institutional Transformation for Teaching Diverse Learners in STEM. Prior grant involvements and research include an earlier NSF award to assist in the development of several formative/summative assessment tools for collegiate student learning and studies in improving teacher education methodologies.
