Application Process
STEP 1: Review the admission requirements for the program you wish to apply for:
- Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree with a concentration in Educational Technology
- Educational Technology or eLearning Certificate
STEP 2: Click here to apply now: https://www.applyweb.com/jmug/index.ftl
STEP 3: Complete and submit your online application, and pay a non-refundable $60 fee.
Please note: Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions should be uploaded with your electronic application and may be used for departmental admission review purposes. If offered admission, you will be directed and required to submit to the JMU Graduate School an official transcript from any institution from which a degree has been awarded to finalize your admission. Transcripts are considered official if they are sent to JMU directly from the issuing institution.
Official transcripts can also be sent through an electronic transcript database provider such as Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse, or others. When using these services, please choose “other” or “employer” and use gradtranscripts@jmu.edu.
Please see our Transcripts & Credential Evaluations page for details regarding degrees earned at non-US academic institutions.
STEP 4: Once your application has been reviewed you will receive a decision letter, via email, informing you whether or not you are being offered a place in the program. Some offers come with conditional terms.
STEP 5: If you are made an offer, you should accept or decline the offer via your Activity Page.
STEP 6: If you accept the offer, please also email Jim Bywater, the Educational Technology Program Director, for more information about classes, registration and your academic advisor.
How to Apply and Enroll in Educational Technology Courses as a Non-Degree Student
Individuals seeking enrollment as a non-degree seeking student must go to https://www.applyweb.com/jmucess/index.html create an account, and complete the “Non-degree Seeking Student Application” to login. Virginia residents must also complete the “Checklist and Application for Virginia In-state Tuition Rates.” A non-refundable $20 processing fee must accompany the application. Non-degree seeking students must submit the application and processing fee each semester they enroll in a course.
If a non-degree seeking student wishes to take a course at the 600 level and above, approval by the appropriate department head is required. Non-degree seeking students may complete the non-degree seeking student application and the in-state form by going to the "Non-Degree Seeking Student Application" here.
Courses taken in the non-degree seeking student category carry university credit, and they may be transferred into a degree program, at the discretion of the program, once the student is admitted. However, taking courses as a non-degree seeking student does not constitute admission to a program or imply later applicability of those courses toward a degree.
Contact Theresa Jennings at jennintl@jmu.edu to enroll in courses.
