Scholarships

Each admitted freshman will be considered for the Madison Award for Academic Excellence, and there is no application required. Amounts for this award vary, and priority is given to those students who are admitted during early action.

The College of Business also offers a limited number of merit- and need-based scholarships each year to incoming freshmen and current students. Applications are typically available beginning in February, and criteria and amount of award vary between scholarships.

Contact Associate Dean Molly Brown at (540) 568-1697 or email her at brownmg@jmu.edu.

Step 1: Open House

Visit us in the fall at one of two Open Houses hosted by JMU’s Office of Admissions: Saturday, September 30 or Saturday, November 11 in 2017.  The College of Business will present two College overview sessions at 9:00 and 10:00 am, and major specific information sessions at 10:00 and 11:00 am, all in Showker Hall.  Please check the Office of Admissions web page at www.jmu.edu/admissions for more information as it becomes available.

Step 2: Choices

If you have been offered admission to JMU, we encourage you to attend Choices, a special day-long program for admitted freshmen and their families. While the day’s schedule is flexible, we hope you’ll plan to attend the CoB events, which include a morning presentation in the Convocation Center and an afternoon meet-and-greet session with faculty and current students in Zane D. Showker Hall in the afternoon.

Choices sessions will be held in April 2018.

Step 3: Summer Springboard

Shortly before starting as a student with JMU, come get acquainted with life as a Duke. Students and families participate in a day filled with activities, including a presentation entitled “Your College Home.”  Later in the afternoon, students will meet in small groups with their First Year Advisor.  For those who are unable to attend Summer Springboard, the College Home presentation for the College of Business can be viewed here.

Differential Tuition

As a student in the CoB, you’ll pay “differential tuition,” an additional charge over JMU’s standard tuition fee - a practice that is common among top business schools and adds value to your overall academic experience. For example, these funds ensure that our students have access to state-of-the-art technology, such as the Capital Markets Lab, and to hands-on experiences such as career treks, professional networking opportunities and career development activities. You’ll gain a competitive edge for internships and job openings.
