  • 2016 Provost’s Award for Community Service for the College of Business, James Madison University. Selected for this award based on years of engaging students in community service with the Mercy House Homeless Center Thrift Store in Harrisonburg.
  • 2016-2017 Selected as the first Community Engagement Fellow for the College of Business. Based on community service engagement with the Mercy House Homeless Center Thrift Store in Harrisonburg.
  • 2015 College of Business Outstanding MBA Graduate Teaching Award
  • 2009 – 2011, SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award Nomination. One of eight JMU faculty members (selected from nearly 1,000 full-time JMU faculty members) nominated for the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) Outstanding Faculty Award.
  • 2010, Best paper award, Journal of Management. One of five winners, this award was presented in 2010 for the following paper:  Ferris, G.R., Treadway, D.C., Kolodinsky, R.W., Hochwarter, W.A, Kacmar, C. J., Douglas, C., & Frink, D.D. (2005).  Development and validation of the political skill inventory.  Journal of Management, 31(1): 1-28. One of five most cited articles in Journal of Management for the year 2005.
  • 2008 Emerald Management Reviews Citation of Excellence Award for the article "Political Skill and Influence Effectiveness: Testing Portions of an Expanded Ferris and Judge (1991) Model", published in Human Relations volume 60 issue 12. Selected as one of the 50 best articles published in 2007 in management and one of the top 50 from the 15,000 articles reviewed throughout 2007. Emerald Management Reviews is an abstracting and indexing database that covers every article in the top 300 business and management journals world-wide. Awarded in August 2008.
  • Fundraising: College of Business. Bob was the faculty point person for a multi-million dollar fund-raising effort that (1) resulted in the 2007 development of the Gilliam Center for Ethical Business Leadership, and (2) fall 2012 expansion of the Center to become the Gilliam Center for Free Enterprise and Ethical Leadership.
  • 2006, Awarded (along with Paul Bierly) a $28,500 Kauffman Foundation Grant to support research entitled, “Entrepreneurial Propensity of College students.” Five publications benefitting 9 JMU MGT faculty members came from this grant.
  • Mercy House Thrift Store advisory board member and volunteer
