Our Mission

To advise, train, and inform small businesses to help them achieve success.

The Shenandoah Valley SBDC is a not-for-profit partnership between James Madison University, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the cities and counties in our service region.

What We Do

We offer no-fee, confidential consulting services to established and new business ventures. We can assist you with feasibility studies and business planning; market research and marketing; financial analysis, projections, and access to capital; operations and human resource assistance; and other specialized services as requested.

We also sponsor workshops and a variety of training options to meet the needs of our business community, and we provide access to local, regional, and national resources for entrepreneurs, business owners, and managers of small and medium-sized businesses.

Who We Serve

Our service region includes the counties of Augusta, Bath, Highland, Page, Rockbridge, and Rockingham, and the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton, Waynesboro, Buena Vista, and Lexington.  We maintain offices in Harrisonburg and Verona but also meet with our clients in Lexington, and Luray. We welcome all JMU staff, faculty, and students as part of our community.

Established at JMU in 1989, the SV SBDC is one of 29 centers across Virginia -- and nearly 1000 centers in the US -- providing professional business advice, training, and information resources to help grow and strengthen local businesses. The Virginia SBDC Network is the most extensive business development program in the Commonwealth and an accredited member of America's SBDC Network.
