Senior Director, Sports Alliances at the American Cancer Society

J.W. is a veteran marketer and sponsorship professional with almost two decades of experience in engaging consumers with high-profile brands such as The Home Depot, Bank of America, AutoTrader, ING, UPS and now, the American Cancer Society (ACS).  He has a wide range of business experience at the grassroots, agency and client sides as well as both the small business and non-profit sectors. 

As Senior Director, Sports Alliances at ACS, J.W. oversees the strategy for the department, with the purpose of promoting the mission and driving revenue for the largest non-profit funder of cancer research in the US. This includes official charity partnerships with the NFL, NHL, Major League Lacrosse, Minor League Baseball, USA Track & Field and its signature Coaches vs. Cancer platform, which just entered its 25th year and has raised over $110 million for cancer research. 

In 2011, J.W. (along with former New England Patriots CMO, Lou Imbriano) started #sbchat – the foremost sports business chat on Twitter. J.W. remains active in the social media space, and uses it not only as a resource to learn and network, but as a tool to help educate the up-and-comers of the sports business industry from a veteran’s perspective. 

J.W. earned his degree in Kinesiology from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA.  He currently resides in Roswell, GA with his wife Jennifer, their son Calvin and too many animals to mention.
