Student Research Assistant

Kara Cacioppo is a senior international affairs major graduating from JMU in December of 2021. Her main research interests are in post conflict recovery, conventional weapons policy, and refugee resettlement. She has been serving as research assistant for CISR since May of 2021. In this role she has created and implemented new standard operating procedures for the Peer Leaders, which is a group of refugee students at Harrisonburg High School. She also assists and conducts research for various other CISR projects including projects in Laos and Iraq. She previously worked for CISR as program assistant for the senior managers course in 2019. In this role she ensured that classes for senior managers in mine action went smoothly and that the participants' needs were met. Along with her work for CISR Kara also was the president of Dukes for Post Conflict Recovery from May 2019 to May 2021. She also currently volunteers with the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad and at Hose Company #4 as a certified firefighter.
