As JMU pursues the mission “to be the national model of the engaged university,” engaged scholarship is one way to actualize this vision and to equip faculty to balance work in and with communities with teaching and research responsibilities. This group is a continuation of a Madison Research Fellows program from Fall 2016 and will work to gather data via interviews and focus groups that explore the tensions and strategies faculty experience and employ when taking on engagement work and scholarship. This group will meet every other week to forward data collection during the spring in preparation to begin drafting at least two articles in the summer.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these program outcomes:

  • Advancing an engaged scholarship project,
  • Understanding a variety of research and scholarly skills related to the scholarship of engagement, and
  • Building a network of scholars on campus pursuing engagement scholarship.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these scholarship outcomes:

  • Enhancing scholarly productivity, and
  • Advancing scholarly skills.
