Animal Welfare (Fall 2013)

The conversation about animal welfare and rights spans issues ranging from the ethical treatment of animals in the laboratory to environmental and ecological sustainability. Animal welfare conversations also include legal and moral rights for nonhuman species.  For instance, animal rights is a growing field in legal studies and practice. For the first time, the Non-Human Rights Project (nonhumanrightsproject.org) was seeking judicial rulings to secure legal rights for animals. How do these and other related issues manifest themselves for scholars across the academy? This group brought together a community of scholars to discuss avenues of research surrounding animal welfare.
